1. DIALOGUE

Conversation 1

가: 안녕하세요. 제 이름은 지수예요. 이름이 뭐예요?  = Hello. My name is Jisoo. What is your name?

나: 반가워요! 저는 도메니카예요.  = Nice to meet you. I am Domenica.

가: 혹시 몇 살이에요? = How old are you?

나: 저는 25살이에요. 지수씨는요? = I am 25. And you?

가: 정말요? 저도 25살이에요. 그럼 생일이 언제예요?  = Really? I am 25 too. So, when is your birthday ?

나: 2월 13일이에요. = It is February 13th.

가: 저는 3월 10일이에요. 그럼 도메니카가 언니예요*! = Mine is March 10th. So, you are older than me*.

나: 아니예요. 우리 그냥 반말해요*! 

= No, Let's use banmal*.

가: 하하, 알겠어요! 

= Haha, okay!

*언니 : older sister

When we are both a women, and you're older than me, I can call you like that.

*반말 : casual expression

가: 그럼 도메니카씨는 어디에 살아요?  = So, Dominica, where do you live?

나: 저는 홍대에 살아요.  = I live in Hongdae.

가: 저는 합정에 살아요. 가까워요! 도메니카씨는 언제 한국에 왔어요?  = I live in Hapjeong. It's close! Domenica, when did you come to Korea?

나: 저는 2023년 1월에 왔어요.  = I came in January 2023.

가: 우와, 너무 좋아요!     = Wow, that's cool!   

나: 지수씨는 누구랑 같이 살아요?  = Who do you live with, Jisoo? 

가: 네, 저는 가족이랑 같이 살아요.  = I live with my family.

나: 가족이 몇 명이에요? = How many people are there in your family?

가: 5명이에요. 엄마, 아빠, 오빠, 여동생이 있어요. = There are 5 people. I have mom, dad, brother and sister.

나: 와, 정말 많아요! 저는 혼자 살아요. = Wow, there are so many! I live alone.

가: 그럼 우리 자주 만나요! 전화번호가 뭐예요? = Then, let's meet often! What is your phone number?   

나: 좋아요! 제 번호는 010-3310-1789예요. = Great! My number is 010-3310-1789.

가: 저장했어요. 나중에 연락할게요! = I saved it. I will contact you later!

2. GRAMMAR

1. ASKING QUESTIONS

• 뭐 = use to make "what" questions

Form:

뭐 + verb

Examples: 뭐 했어요? = What did you do?

이거 뭐예요? = What is this? 뭐 먹을래요? = What do you want to eat?

• 언제 = use to make "when" questions

Form:

언제 + verb

Examples: 언제 했어요? = When did you do it? 언제 일어나요? = When do you get up?

영화를 언제 볼 거예요? = When are we going to watch the movie?

• 어디 = use to make "where" questions

Form:

어디 + verb

Examples: 어디 가고 싶어요? = Where do you want to go?

어디 가세요? = Where are you going?

역이 어디에 있어요? = Where is the station?

2. SINO-KOREAN NUMBERS

Use:

• price

• numbers (bus, phone)

• temperature 도

• full date 년, 월, 일

• minutes 분, seconds 초

• age 세 / (*age 살 is used with native number)

• months

• anything over 100

일 = 1	육 = 6
이 = 2	칠 = 7
삼 = 3	팔 = 8
사 = 4	구 = 9
오 = 5	십 10

십칠 = 17 (10+7)

팔십오 = 85 (8+10+5)

• 백 = 100

• 천 = 1.000

• 만 = 10.000

• 십만 = 100.000

• 백만 = 1.000.000

• 천만 = 10.000.000

• 억 = 100.000.000

• 십억 = 1.000.000.000

3. COUNTERS

명 / 번 = counting marker

명	a counter for people
번	a counter for behaviors/actions/numbering

Form: object that we count + number + counting marker

Examples:

• 사람 한 명 = One person

• 사람 세 명 = Three person

• 내일 친구를 두 명 만날 거예요. = I'm going to meet 2 friends tomorrow.

• 동생이 다섯 명 있어요. = I have five 5 siblings.

• 그 영화를 여섯 번 봤어요. = I've watched this movie 6 times.

• 어제 커피를 한 번 마셨어요. = I had a cup of coffee yesterday.

• 저는 125 번 버스를 타요. = I take bus number 125.

가: 혹시 이름이 뭐예요? 

나: 저는 아리예요. 

가: 반가워요 아리씨! 저는 지철이에요.

     혹시 나이가 어떻게 되세요?

나: 저는 22살이요. 02년생이에요. 

가: 와! 저랑 동갑이에요. 혹시 생일은 언제예요?

나: 5월이요.

가: 대박! 저도예요. 와, 그럼 우리 반말 써요! 

나: 좋아요! 

     지철이는 어디에 살아?

가: 나는 강남에 살아. 너는?

나: 나는 서초동에 살아. 

가: 우와! 그럼 가깝네. 주말에 만날까?

나: 그래 좋아. 

가: 전화번호가 뭐야? 

나: 내 번호는 010-2345-1234야. 

가: 오케이, 저장했어! 카톡도 친추할게. 

*어떻게 되세요? - What is your~?

ex) 이름이 어떻게 되세요? = 이름이 뭐예요? = what is your name.

나이가 어떻게 되세요? = 몇 살이에요? = how old are you?(what is your age).

*02년생이에요. Recently, Koreans have been asking "How old are you?" as "What year are you born?" because "Korean age" has recently been eliminated, and Koreans ask when they were born for clarity.

• 정말 = Really (Casual) / Indeed (Formal)

• 그냥 = As it is

• 그러면 (shorter version - 그럼) = Then

• 혹시 = By any chance

• 친구 = Friend

• 살다 = Live

• 가깝다 = Close, Nearby

• 오다 = Come

• 너무 = Too, So

• 좋다 = Good, Fine

• 가족 = Family

• 엄마 = Mom

• 아빠 = Dad

• 오빠 = Brother

• 여동생 = Sister (Younger)

• 많다 = Many, A lot of

• 자주 = Often

• 만나다 = Meet, See

• 전화번호 = Phone number

• 연락 = Contact

• 동갑 = same age

• 카톡 = korean texting application

• 친추 = abbreviation of '친구추가'. that means "add friend".
