BDB Gathering (24/05/28) : I'd like a latte, please.
안녕하세요!
Hello, this is Hoorimi from BDB KOREAN. In our recent gathering, we practiced conversation using the content from our blog post "12 Useful Korean Phrases Used in Coffee Shops."
https://www.bdbkorean.com/post/useful-korean-phrases
The session proceeded as follows: first, we familiarized ourselves with the 12 phrases, then we reviewed and organized the words and grammar we were unsure about. After that, we practiced conversations using the phrases we had learned.
I hope this is helpful for all of you! And I look forward to seeing you at our next session!
1. Vocabulary
2. Grammar
1. V/A + -ㄹ/을까요?
This ending is used to ask someone a question or to make a suggestion. It’s similar to saying “Shall we...?” or “Will...?” in English.
Use -ㄹ까요? after a verb stem ending in a vowel.
Use -을까요? after a verb stem ending in a consonant.
Examples:
같이 영화(를) 볼까요? (Shall we watch a movie together?)
내일 비(가) 올까요? (Will it rain tomorrow?)
2. V/A+-지만
This ending means “but” or “although” and is used to contrast two clauses.
Examples:
저는 피자를 좋아하지만 제 친구는 싫어해요. (I like pizza, but my friend doesn’t.)
공부해야 하지만 너무 피곤해요. (I need to study, but I’m very tired.)
3. 아/어도 되다
This grammar structure is used to ask for or give permission, meaning “Is it okay to...?” or “You may...”.
Use -아도 되다 after verb stems ending in ㅏ or ㅗ.
Use -어도 되다 after verb stems ending in other vowels.
Use -해도 되다 for 하다 verbs.
Examples:
여기 앉아도 돼요? (Is it okay to sit here?)
물(을) 마셔도 돼요. (You may drink water.)
