What did we do in last gathering?
Hello guys, I'm Hoorimi from BDB Korean.
Last Wednesday, we had a BDB Gathering and It was such a great time.
There were 4 student and me. I believe it was appropriate since they have a similar Korean level, and it's the right number for effective to speak in Korean together.
Originally, I designed BDB Gathering to discussion more sophisticated topics, but I realized that we need time to gradually build up. So, this time, we focused on practicing practical Korean number, as many students make mistakes.
Our session followed a structured sequence:
Reading Korean numbers(Sino, Native)
Learning when to use Sino or Native numbers
Engaging in Short question and answers
Practice conversations using Korean numbers
I'm so excited because my students can meet each other and new gathering members as well. They are from different countries, but we can meet due to our shared passion of learning Korean. haha! I hope we can discuss various topic in Korean together!
And I'll share with you what we study in BDB gathering.
If you want to join this Gathering, don't hesitate! See you next time!
What did we learn?

2. When is the Sino number used?
Okay! Let's start there!
Many students are confused when to use Sino numbers or native numbers.
Even if they already know it, it's challenging to speak correctly during conversation.
So, you need to organize it at once and remember it.
Sino number (일, 이, 삼, 사, 오...)
Usually, Sino numbers are use for larger numbers because it's difficult to express big numbers using native numbers, even for native speakers. Native numbers become the same as Sino number over 100.
Building floor and room numberex) 63
Height and Weightex) 178cm(백칠십팔 센티미터) / 60kg(육십 킬로그램)
Size (clothes or shose)ex) 60 (육십) / 90(구십) / 100(백) / 240(이백사십)
Phone numberex) 010-4978-2543(공일공 에 사구칠팔 에 이오사삼)
Numbering (Bus, Address, Questions, Etc...)
Is it helpful to organize Sino number on your mind?
A special point to note is that minutes use Sino numbers, while hour use Native numbers when telling the time. Additionally, many Koreans live in apartments(or studio apartments), so we have house or room numbers. Lastly, Korean clothing and shoe sizes are different from those in other countries. If you're curious about it, you can check it on Google or Never.
3. When is the Native number used?
Native number (하나, 둘, 셋, 넷, 다섯...)
Generally, native numbers(Korean numbers) are used when counting something. Korean learners often find native numbers more challenging because they are longer, and the number form is slightly altered from 1 to 4 when used with unit nouns.
For example,
I think we rarely use native numbers for counting beyond 40.
So you can remember up to 서른(30).
and let's explore when the Native number is used.
Count somethingex) 1
Duration of hourex) 1
exceptional word 하루(one day), 이틀(two days), 사흘(three days), 나흘(four days)
and some expressions can be expressed using both Sino and Native number.
(During)
(During)
Duration of year: 한 해 / 1년 + 동안(During)
