Hello, I'm Hoorimi, your Korean teacher.

I first started teaching Korean to foreigners through volunteer work in Itaewon.

One day, a man said to me,

“No one sits next to me on the subway.

I guess people don’t like me.”

Hearing that made my heart feel heavy.
I didn’t see it as simple discrimination,
but rather
as a wall built by fear of the unfamiliar
a fear that can be found in many parts of Korean culture.

That moment made me realize something:
the most powerful tool for breaking down that fear and misunderstanding is
language.

The language barrier is also a barrier between people.

If we can break down that wall,
maybe we can understand each other more deeply.

This experience led me to major in Korean language education for foreigners,
and I began teaching students from all over the world
on a language platform called ital**

Over the past three years,
I've connected with learners from diverse backgrounds—

and during that time, I also earned my official Korean teaching certificate and degree.

I truly enjoy what I do

not just because I’m teaching,
but because
I get to discover new cultures and hear new stories every day.

I’ve always been curious about different cultures, and the moments when I get to listen to my students’ experiences and share in their journeys are incredibly meaningful and joyful to me.

The kind of class I aim to offer goes beyond just studying grammar.

I focus on helping learners speak with confidence
and use language as a way to truly understand others.

More than just memorizing vocabulary,
I want to share
real Korean,
the kind of language used in real-life situations—
expressions that are practical, natural,
and connected to each learner’s own life.

BDB Korean was born from this dream.

: Break Down Barriers

I wanted to create a space where learners could not only take lessons,
but also study on their own—
a space filled with practical materials,
expressions you can follow along with through videos,
and natural Korean from real dramas you can revisit anytime.

Here, you’ll find 1:1 lessons, group classes,
and
self-study content designed to support your learning journey.

As for my dream going forward,

I don’t want to remain just a teacher who explains grammar.
I hope to help
learners go one step further:
to create their
own content in Korean,
and to collaborate with language platforms, apps, and organizations to open up even more possibilities for language learning around the world.

Language is more than just a tool

it’s the beginning of connection.
And on your Korean journey,
I hope to be a warm and steady companion by your side.

Let’s walk this path together.
