안녕하세요. 여러분! 저는 BDB Korean의 한국어 선생님 후리미입니다. 벌써 2025년이 되고 1월이 끝나가네요! 그리고 다음주는 한국에서 "설날"(Lunar new year)도 있습니다. 모두 새해 복 많이 받으세요!

It’s already 2025, and January is coming to an end! Plus, next week is Seollal (Lunar New Year) here in Korea.

저는 새해가 되면서 저의 사이트를 구독해주신 분들과 더 가까워 지고 싶다는 마음이 있었어요. 사실 제가 여러가지 소셜 채널을 운영하고 있지만, 저는 조금... 내향인이라서 ☺️ 소셜에서 소통을 하는 것에 조금 서툴답니다. 하지만 저는 글을 쓰는 것을 좋아해요. 그래서 작년 말부터 이메일로 여러분들께 뉴스레터를 보내면 어떨까! 생각하고 있었는데, 사실 수업과 영상 만드는 일, 웹사이트를 관리하는 일들만 해도 너무 바빠서 제대로 하지 못했어요. 그래서 이제서야 첫번째 뉴스레터를 쓰기 시작했습니다! 저의 사이트에 어떤 분들이 구독해주신지도 궁금하네요. 저는 이 글을 쓰면서도 궁금해요. 사실 저도 BDB Korean을 시작하기 전에는 이메일함을 확인한 적이 별로 없는데, 제가 이메일을 보내면 몇 명의 구독자분들이 열어볼까요? >_< 1명이라도 저의 메일을 보고 반가워해주신다면 좋겠습니다.

With the start of the new year, I’ve been wanting to connect more closely with those of you who have subscribed to my site. To be honest, while I manage various social channels, I’m a bit… introverted, so I’m not the best at keeping up with interactions on social media. 😅 But I do love writing! So since the end of last year, I’ve been thinking, “What if I started sending newsletters via email?” However, between teaching, making videos, and managing my website, I was so busy that I couldn’t actually get started. Finally, I’m writing my very first newsletter now! I’m also curious about the people who’ve subscribed to my site. Even as I write this, I’m curious—before I started BDB Korean, I hardly ever checked my email inbox. If I send out an email, how many of my subscribers will actually read it? >_<

If even one person feels happy to receive my email, that would mean so much to me.

사실 제가 수업을 하면서 모든 학생의 수업을 받을 수 없다는 점이 미안했어요. 한국와 물가차이가 너무 커서, 그 친구들의 나라에 맞는 가격으로 제공하면 저도 생활이 어렵고 좋은 수업을 제공하기가 어렵거든요. 그래서 저는 무료로 공부할 수 있는 자료로라도 돕고 싶어서 블로그를 '카밀(Camille)'과 함께 쓰기 시작했어요.

One thing I’ve always felt bad about is that I can’t teach every student who wants to take my classes. The cost of living is so different between Korea and other countries. If I adjusted my prices to fit everyone’s situation, it would be hard for me to sustain myself or provide quality lessons. So I started creating free resources to help, writing blog posts together with Camille.

저는 저의 학습자분들과 한국어로 된 좋은 컨텐츠를 만들고, 다양한 사람들의 인생과 좋은 이야기들을 더 많은 사람들과 공유하고 싶어요.

또 한국어를 배우는 여러분들이 한국어로 창작활동이나 직업활동, 수익활동을 할 수 있는 여러 기회들이 생겼으면 좋겠어요!

또 한국어로 번역 되는 책과 사이트들이 점점 많아져서, 영어를 잘 못하더라도 한국어를 할 수 있으면 보다 더 많은 정보들을 얻을 수 있게 되기를 바래요. 이렇게... 꿈은 무성하고 하고 싶은 것도 너무 많지만, 시간이 너무나 제한적인 삶을 살아가고 있는 작은 사람입니다. 그래서 여러분들에게 이 이메일을 보내보아요. 앞으로 시간이 될 때마다, 이것저것 이야기들을 여러분들께 나누어 볼게요! 저의 생각을 누군가에게 공유하다보면 언젠가 함께 공감해주는 사람도 생기겠죠?

My dream is to create great content in Korean for my learners and to share amazing stories from different lives with more people.

I also hope that you, as Korean learners, can find opportunities to create, work, or even earn income using Korean!

I dream of a future where more books and websites are translated into Korean, so even if someone doesn’t speak English well, they can access more information just by knowing Korean.

I have so many dreams and things I want to do… but my time is so limited.

That’s why I’m sending you this email. From time to time, I’ll share my thoughts and stories with you through newsletters.

Hopefully, as I share my thoughts, I’ll find people who resonate with them someday, right?
